President OBAMA arrives in Japan on Friday the 13th. I don’t think this date was intentionally selected but even if an accidental choice, this means a little bit of situation of Japan and US recently.
For us Japanese, Friday the 13th doesn’t mean a lot. We just know a little about it as Westerner’s bad luck day and as the title of the hit movie series.
However, maybe in the USA this date might be reported as a symbol of bad relation over Japan.
Recent news papers often tells the relation of Japan- US is getting worse. It may be so, but I don’t always think so. Japanese leading political parties changed after a long time monopolized politics time by the same party. For us, this means the ecdysis of politics.
But for the USA, it’s the frist experience that Japan is thinking by their own brain, not by the brain of American high officials.
I sometimes wrote that I or many Japanese love the USA and American culture. In Japan, so many influence from USA are still around our life. Movies, music, media, education, cars, and more things are certainly gifts from America’s influence.
We don’t want to go separately from the USA, even more we don’t want to fight against any of America. But we recently want to think by ourselves. That’s all.
We welcome President Obama on Friday the 13th as the starting date of the new relationship. If it’s really worst date for the USA, it means we will never get any worse because we start from the bottom line. Will it get better ? I will answer, Yes, we can !
