Sheila Smith of CFR seems to have told something like “American preaching deplomacy to Japan with pressure should end”, Japanese news reported as a quotation of Washington post.
I’m not sure about Japan’s future with the USA. But one thing the Japanese often think recently about the US – Japan relationship is ” why is America always forcing anything to Japan as if they are preaching or even as if threatening.
Japan is a loser in the last war, and all of the modern society was formed by the USA’s leadership after the war. Extreme example is our constitution. Japanese constitution was made by General Headquarters of America at the time. Since then, Japan has always been trying to stay with the USA as a good partner. We like America, we welcome American culture too. We thank America for our modern prosperity.
Many years have passed since the last war, but Japan is not mentally independent yet. If American high official says like that, many of the Japanese would try to stand aside America more than ever. Japan may have exhausted to be an apprentice. It might be a pleasure for Japan to be a graduate from a long term school after the war.
By the way, I’ve met many people in the world. As my personal opinion, I really like American people. They are such friendly people and very easy to talk with. They have free and artistic mind, which set me comfortable. American people are really nice. I don’t remember any troubles of governments when I talk with my American friends. My impression to America has always been a friendly and brother-like country. Still the image is the same for me.
