Simon Philip Cowell, the main judge of American Idol, is reported as the No.1 earning person on the TV of America.  News says that he makes more than 75 million dollars a year !

I often see American Idol because my wife is a fan. She says that American Idol judge’s comments are not important except Simon Cowell.  If he says OK, the singer will be jumping with joy, if he says NO, all get moody.  There are 2 or 3 more judges sitting beside him, but they are just introduction or prologue for main event, Simon Cowell’s lecture.  Main dish and appetizer like judges ! This is what my wife often says.

Why is Simon Cowell such popular or important character ?

Does it mean people of America want more stimulative person than easy looking people ?  For TV promotion, its important that someone imporessive stands out above all. But why do they pay such high price to him ?

If we hear such pretty penny in Japan, we will see the person with jealous eyes. Maybe we don’t want to see him or her on the TV any more because it means we pay money to the millionaires as far as we see them on TV.   We understand that superior talented person should take more money than ordinary people, but if the amount is too big like astronomical figures,  we probably feel different from American people.

Maybe we Japanese are not rich comaperd to American, of course it’s true, and the Americans can allow them with much money as a winner or gifted person.  We Japanese first think it’s not fair.  We don’t even have a chance to think like that way because the characters on TV in Japan never makes such big money as Simon Cowell does.

Maybe I’m going to see American Idol again next year, but next time I may see Simon Cowell with eyes of poor man after I got this news.

By the way, news says that Simon Cowell owns a record company, which contracted Susan Boyle after British Talent show.  He makes money both from TV and from records.  He is certainly a good businessman.
