Oysters of Sendai, Japan



kaki1Oysters are one of the gourmet seafood in winter time of Japan. Oysters are farmed in some  places in Japan. But probably the best known places in Japan are Sendai and Hiroshima.  I’ve never tried Hiroshima Oysters, but tried Sendai Oysters many times.

Sendai is located about 500 kilometers from Tokyo. Winter time there is colder than Tokyo. It’s a beautiful city with ocean and green wood, people call this city as capital of wood.

Sendai has some gourmet food besides Oysters.  As reported previously, grilled beef tongueis a very famous food here. Also Ramen, Soba, Udon, and Sake ( Japanese wine ) have the local originality. Sendai is certainly a gourmet city of Japan at the same time with Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Kobe.

If you have a taste of Oysters in Sendai, we Japanese recommend the raw oysters. The fresh oysters have flavor of the sea when we hold them in the mouth.  If you don’t like raw staff, please try the crumb fried oysters. It’s a deep fried style, and many Japanese like this style. You can eat them with sweet sauce or just soy sauce is also good for the crumbed oysters.

From Fall to the beginning of the Spring time, Sendai has many tourist for tasting Oysters. In Sendai , there is avery famous Oyster restaurant called KAKITOKU.  This restaurant is a must for Oyster fans. It’s often crowded with people waiting for the seats.  But if you have time it’s worthy of waiting.  For my experience, this oyster is the World No.1 ! I don’t hesitate to recommend KAKITOKU !
