STRAWBERRY STAEMENT is a movie made when the flower movement grew larger. Also there was lasting Vietnam war, and anti-war activity penetrated into college students in the USA.
The Movie, Strawberry Statement’s message meant to hope the peaceful world. At the end, they sing Give Peace a Chance of John Lennon with protesting peace and with a hope..but ends in vain. This movie still expresses how the students at the time were in the USA and in the world.
Ichigohakusho o Mouichido ( translation/Strawberry Statement Once Again ) was composed by YUMI ARAI, or later her name became YUMI MATSUTOYA, when she was around 20 years old or so. She is now known to all the Japanese as the top female musician with lots of million sale CDs.
She gave this song to Ban Ban, 2 boy member group, who didn’t have a hit song then. I don’t know wy they got this song from YUMI ARAI. As expected, this song became their first NO.1 hit song, and now it grew as an everlasting memorial song for all of the Japanese who lived the same generation then.
Song is about a couple who went to see this movie, Strawberry Statement, and memory of this movie reminds of the time they spent together. It’s a sweet and melancholic song, and listeners can still remember the student time of them with this song.
Many songs written by Yumi Arai are still alive in the mind of people but especially this song stands out for the people who lived in 1970′s as young students.
Still, we have this song in mind.
