Today’s news says that Japanese old record company, Victor Music Entertainment, is treated for acquisition with a Japanese Game Soft maker, Konami.
I’m a music fan, and also I have some very good friends working in Victor Music Entertainment. Some of them are top management class.
Some months ago, I talked with one of them over beer. They spoke about something grave matter, which might happen soon. I remember that meant this topic of today’s news.
Victor has a very long history in Japan. Before Sony Music Entertainment or Universal records grew big, Victor used to be the largest and most influential record company in Japan. Still their production quality is high and there are many audio fans who loves Victor’s CDs.
Victor also has contracts with good artists like, Southern All Stars (photo), Smap, Dragon Ash, and some more. Recently Victor music entertainment was not powerful in international business. No major international rebels are their network, which also was a reason for recent sales down. Domestic contracts were still favourable and sales were not that bad. But the whole industry of Japanese music business is already on the decrease of sales. Nobody can stop it and it’s a matter of time if any of the record companies would have to close their doors. Under the shrinking market, some companies must withdraw from the race. If it could be Victor Music Entertainment, the time would be so cruel for this long history record company.
If KONAMI really purchases major shares, my concern is if the name of this company would have to change or not. Probaby it will, more or less.
Then Japanese music fans like me will have to lose one more name that we have long known. We can’t stop the clock work.
