When we see Takeshi Kitano’s interviews like this video, we often have strange feeling about it. Maybe it’s because we think Takeshi Kitano to be a comedian rather than a film director. 

There are many fans of KITANO films in Japan.  They know both comedian side and director side of Takeshi Kitano.

For me or people on the same age group with Takeshi Kitano, the first impression was too strong. He appeared on TV with never experienced comedy talks. That was more like critics than comedy, or like investigation than a casual thoughts.  Everybody got surprised at his top intelligence behind the comedian face.  He clearly made us laugh with clear presentation of machine-gun like talk speed.  Our brain had no chance to take a rest while he talked.  Going together with him was a kind of mental and physical pleasure.  It’s a rude expression but to be honest, it was like sex orgasms.

Conservative people hated him because they didn’t like to hear things that should be hidden. Takeshi broke all the rules and taboo. He knew that he could break the social system with comedy. If a politician says the truth with serious face, it would be a big trouble.  If he, comedian, says it with laughing face, it would step into the mind of people over the conservative wall.

Takeshi’s achievement can’t be only in a comedy world. He changed the Japanese mind and opened it. He proved that talent often is stronger than intelligence although he has both.

After his comedy breaks, Japanese comedy style followed him. Present Japanese comedian are remaking what Takeshi did more than 30 years ago.

Takeshi Kitano is now 62 years old. He had a trafic accident and that was a very big damage to him.  His talk is not as stimulative as he did 30 years ago.

He is now famous as a director of films. He once again proved his talent power.

However, for me, Takeshi Kitano or Beat Takeshi is always a great top comedian in Japan and he still is the revolution of Japanese public mind.

I still feel strange that his title is ” director”.  He is never ending charisma and he needs no title for his life because he himself hated the title for himself. He just expressed his insde with his words.  He is not just a director for us.
