ASASHORYU news and Sumo spirit

sumo2Recently the Sumo Grand champion, Asashoryu, retired.   The biggest reason for his decision was an accident that Asashoryu was involved.  News reported he hit a man and the man’s nose bone was broken.  Asashoryu had a few accidents in the past, and Sumo committee seems to have decided ” that’s it”.

There are still many pros and cons, but I don’t comments about right or wrong about this.

Through this news, I remembered that Sumo was formed as a spiritual event of Japan at the time of it’s birth.  Sumo is known as a battle on the stage now, but it’s an special affair for god for the first time when it was born.

Even many Japanese don’t know the history of Sumo, but if it’s carefully looked, we understand Sumo has a lot of ritual in the manner.

In front of the God of ours, we human must be pure and calm. So the Sumo wrestlers are requested to be representative of such human being ( or such Japanese people ).

I don’t know either about the history of Sumo after the birth, but we are taught about Sumo’s spirit as such.

Asashoryu was a popular sumo wrestler. We probably will miss him.

At the same time, we must keep the spirit of Sumo as a real tradition of Japan.
