Spoken Japanese ” AHOKA ? BAKAKA? “

Today, I’m going to write an easy Japanese sample for casual conversation. Maybe the standard expression is rather easy-found words, here I write some really casual but often used expression.

AHOKA ? (あほか?)

This is originally an word from Osaka district, or Kansai ( western) district of Japan.  AHO means stupid in Osaka, in Tokyo we say Baka.  But both Aho and Baka are already used in any parts of Japan.

KA means an usual expression when we ask something, so AHOKA means ” Are you stupid ? ” Also we can say BAKAKA ? like in Tokyo way, but probably AHOKA sounds a little casual and intimate when we use it among friends.  But if you use it among strangers or on business, it’s too offensive word to anybody.  So be careful when you use it no matter if it’s AHOKA or BAKAKA.

When you use it among friends, maybe still you should use it with intimate friends rather than some new friends.

If you want to insult someone, of course you can say AHOKA ! or  BAKAKA ! and you can say AHO ! BAKA ! When AHO ! or BAKA !,  there is no KA ? here, so it means YOUARE STUPID !!

Omae (wa) Ahoka ?  means Are you stupid ?  Omae means You in Japanese.

Wa is often used this way, but you can do without here, like Omae Ahoka ?
