Permanent residents’ suffrage possible ?

senkyoJapanese leading political party, Democratic party, is preparing for submitting the new law, permanent residents’ suffrage for district elections, or local area elections ( not for nation wide elections ).

In Japan, the constitution says that the voting right rests with the Japanese nation, so it means the suffrage needs Japanese nationality, and not for the permanent residents if they don’t have the nationality.

This new suffrage is mainly for the Koreans in Japan, some news papers say.  Democratic party seems to have promised to discuss this matter with Korean people group in Japan before they won the election, so they need to do this now.

To be honest, I don’t agree to this because the constitution says NO.  If this is allowed, the meaning of the constitution has no more spirits of the country of Japan.  Many in Japan disagree to this.

Some think that it’s not good because Koreans don’t like Japan. If the Koreans living in Japan have the voting right, they would try to confuse Japan.  This is the other concern of some people.

When we think of Japanese politics, it’s really complicated and it has hidden history inside and outside Japan.  So it’s really hard to say in public about the justice of Japanese politics.  Often I don’t know which is right or wrong.

One thing I want to say is that we must be careful about the suffrage or immigrant law.  We’ve seen many countries that has been changed much after the increase of immigrants, and they often have many troubles by the changes.

No matter who would have the voting right, we must first stand beside the spirit of constitution.  Otherwise, nothing can bind our mind together.

Before going to the discussion on this matter, we should say NO because the constitution doesn’t allow it.
