If Elvis was alive, he would be 75 years old on 8th of January 2010. Indeed, he has never passed away from the heart of people then.  In America, there seems to have been a lof of events to celebrate his birthday.

In Japan, Elvis is certainly still a big star, but maybe not like the USA.  For Americans, maybe he is the national hero. The meaning of existance would be much different from Japan.  He would be like a president of modern music for Americans.

In Japan, Elvis is a top music star, but probably in the sense of popularity, the first impact on Japanese modern music was the Beatles.  The Beatles changed many thing from music to any life style.

For the Beatles too, Elvis was the best textbook and their idol.  We Japanese often forget what Elvis was like then. But without him, modern music would have been totally different from what we know now even in Japan.
