Will Tuna Sushi disappear ??

sushiWhen we were very young, we didn’t want to eat Tuna Sushi not because we didn’t like it but because we had it so many times.

Now Tuna Sushi or Tuna is too expensive and we don’t eat it so often.

More than 30 years ago, my mother often bought Tuna sashimi for our dinner.  I would think ” no more tuna, please ! Next time, sashimi or Sushi should be Shrimp or octopus !”

If I tell this to someone who invites me dinner, I’m sure the person would think I’m too humble or too wired person.  In Japan, Tuna is a real gourmet fish now. It means we understand how it’s precious, and if we eat so much,  even the gourmet food becomes “no more food”.

Today, a news says that Tuna’s intended catch amount for a year will be limited by 40% reduction of the last year amount, which means Tuna will be more expensive and rare gourmet food.  This is natural understanding when we read this news.

But the other news says that it would be not the price hike soon. They say that more business is trying to start Tuna farming  because of the shortage of catch, so rather than the shortage of Tuna, oversupply of Tuna is more expected. Actually the price of Tuna in Japan is on the down trend.

I’m not sure which result is better for us. But Tuna farming is really expected. If we can’t eat Tuna sushi any more, that means one of the very traditional Japanese food culture disappears. It’s too sad mentally, and as a sushi lover.
